Self Ligating Braces

Self-ligating braces use a ‘sliding door’ technique in which metal brackets are stuck onto the front of teeth, allowing the arch wire to slide back and forth without the need for rubber bands to hold it in place.

Pros:

  • More hygienic than metal braces as less food gets trapped between brackets
  • Requires fewer adjustments and visits to the dentists compared to conventional braces
  • Shorter treatment time than 1st generation metal braces
  • No staining problems

Cons:

  • More expensive than 1st generation metal braces
  • Technique sensitive

Assessing Your Suitablility

On your first consultation, your dentist will conduct a thorough orthodontic examination on you. Following that, he/she will also take your x-ray, a scan of your teeth and full face & profile photographs in order to create a treatment plan best suited for you.

Your dentist is interested in more than just your teeth. Your facial profile, the bone structure of your head, how you chew, breathe and speak is just some of the many things that your dentist studies very carefully. The goal is to find the best harmony between all of these factors in order to achieve a better appearance, better teeth and jaw function as well as ensuring that your treatment lasts.

Your Customised Treatment Plan

During your second consultation, your dentist will explain to you the relationship between soft tissue profile, jawbone and teeth as well as how these affect your appearance. Based on x-rays analyzed by our in-house computer software, your dentist will then advise you on the various treatment options available as well as the costs involved for the dental services so that you can make an informed decision.
